How we do it!

Using a combination of nature and chemistry European mounts will last a lifetime and your trophy will be proudly displayed in any setting from log home to corporate office. To begin the process our taxidermists skin the skull and remove the neck vertebrae. Next we clean the skull of any tissue or muscle and remove the eyes and brains. Now the easy part begins. Nature has since creation been cleaning up after itself. Dermestid beetles go to work removing all of the flesh. It is amazing how efficient these little critters are. After just a few days a complete skull will come out spotless of any flesh or tissue. This process is far better than boiling since their is no stress on the bone or teeth. Other methods can leave teeth cracked and cause premature aging of the skull not to mention it is a heck of a lot of work. Now for the chemistry lesson. First degreasing is accomplished using solvents and degreasers. This is very important as bone will leach grease and yellow for years to come if not properly degreased. Degreasing will take literally months for some specimens. Next the skull is whitened using H202(hydrogen peroxide) combined with special whitening agents. This is not your drug store/hair salon variety peroxide. The H202 used by us is a very powerful, potent  high strength tech grade product. This will produce a permanent deep bone saturation-whitening throughout the skull plate. It can be done easier and faster but the years will show on your trophy if a quality degreasing and whitening was done. The last step is to mount on a panel of your choice and ship back to you for display.  All of us here at Dakota Skulls love the sport of hunting and understand any mount is a trophy of a lifetime.
